A storage locker can look pretty big right up until you start moving stuff in and suddenly there’s not enough room! But that’s just floor space. To maximise storage, think vertically. You want to take advantage of all that upper space. The best way to do that is to use shelving, hooks, racks and to disassemble large items or store them on their ends.

Shelving gets your things up all off the floor to fill space up to the ceiling. It’s a great way to organise both boxed items and irregularly shaped things as well.

Use (clothing) racks to hang things, or buy hooks to attach to the walls or ceiling (depending on your storage lockers features). Hang things like some equipment, toys, gardening tools, kitchen/cleaning odds and ends, etc.

If at all possible, disassemble large items including furniture to enable them to be stored more compactly. If it’s not possible, then store them upright, or on their sides, at the back of your unit, to fill more vertical space than horizontal space.
