Storage In Vancouver

We are well into the rainy season with freezing temperatures on the way. Sure, we have a nice day or two here and there, and you may have the best intention to get out on your bike. But, let’s face it, biking in fall, winter, and even into spring can be pretty miserable, not to mention dangerous. So, it’s time to store that bike and not feel guilty about it! Here are some tips and tricks for bike storage in Vancouver.
Regular bike storage
Inflate ties
Clean bike
Lube chain and cables
Lower gear
Store so weight is off tires
Humidity-controlled storage
Cover with a dust cloth
Fully inflate bike tires before storing them. This keeps a cushion of air between the metal rim and the 2 rubber layers of the tire (inner tube and outer tread). If the bike is stored standing up so there’s weight on the tires, they will lose air pressure over time. Simply check and inflate periodically. Optimally, store your bike on wall hooks or ceiling hooks. Tires may be taken off and stored separately too, if that’s easier.
Give your bike a thorough cleaning before putting it into storage. Check for damage at the same time. Use bike-approved lube to grease the chain and cables. Also, put it into a lower gear to minimise tension on the derailleur.
Consider a humidity-controlled storage unit to store your bikes. The temperature fluctuations we get over the coming seasons can create moisture issues that can lead to rust or mould on the seat. A humidity-controlled unit removes this risk as the environment is maintained at a constant temperature.

All the tips for regular bike storage apply to e-bikes as well. However there are some additional considerations due to the battery. Lithium-ion batteries are best stored not on a full charge; somewhere between halfway and 75%--check your manual for your particular battery’s storage charge. They also should not be stored at cold temperatures, so a temperature-controlled storage unit ...
