Storage Solutions for a Minimalist Lifestyle
If you find your home is being taken over by “things” and constantly cluttered, it may be time for a change. You might be tempted to buy more storage containers and place the clutter out of sight, but perhaps it is time to consider a more minimalist lifestyle. If this catches your attention, check out some of the storage solutions ideas below.
First, you need to declutter and organize your stuff. This can be a daunting task, and is best approached on a room-by-room basis. Organize your items into piles of things you plan to keep, sell, donate or discard. If there are items you have not used for a long time, now is the time to move on from them.
Once you have organized these piles and moved out the items you no longer need, you need to carefully consider storage solutions for what you still have. Ideally, you want everything to be hidden, but still organized and accessible. Clear plastic containers and labeled baskets are excellent storage solutions for this. Make sure everything has a home and is quickly and easily accessed. If something is going to get lost in the bottom of a drawer again, then you probably do not need it.
You may also come across some items that you do not have immediate use for, but do need to keep, either for future use or nostalgic reasons. Depending on the nature and quantity of these items, you may consider the use of a storage locker or self storage. The advantage of this is that these items are easily accessible when needed (camping gear, Christmas decorations etc), but not taking up valuable space or cluttering other areas throughout the rest of the year.
This spring, make it a goal to follow some of these storage solutions and transform your space into a minimalist lifestyle.
